I am originally from Virginia, where I received a BA in Studio Art from George Mason University. I travelled around the world with my husband, who was an Army officer, which included 5 years in Europe. Upon returning to the US, my husband retired and we moved to RI to take care of his aging parents. I attended RISD and was the first recipient of the Children’s Book Illustration Certificate Program. I worked as a freelancer and continued to share my love of art with children in afterschool programs. It was only natural that I returned to school again and received my MAT (PK-12) in Art Education from RIC.
I have lived and worked in Cumberland for twenty years. I am fortunate to have supportive colleagues and administration in Cumberland Public Schools. It was at Joseph L. McCourt Middle School, where we hosted the very first RI STEAM Day in collaboration with RISD and the US Military Academy at West Point. STEAM has been integrated into the Visual Art program ever since and it has poured into the community and state.
I currently am on the Executive Board of RI Art Education Association and serve as the STEAM Coordinator. I have presented at state and national conventions on STEAM, as well as the National Junior Art Honor Society.
